Q. HOW DID YOUR PRODUCTION SKILLS DEVELOP THROUGHOUT THIS PROJECT?

Yeah… It’s definitely unique….My creativity levels had to shoot up in order to come up with ideas for the pages. My cover page inspiration was actually from the Italian painter; Giuseppe Arcimbaldo.  In order to make it my own I drew inspiration from images of local historical figures…….using this….. as a guideline I was able to capture the profile using resources in the form of foliage that were around me. The details for the main page image were carefully placed down to the very last leaf …..use my stylus and the cropping system built in to my Galaxy Note 9.

I never realized how much work it is to create a blog…. it nearly killed me…… my skills were at a beginner level when I started the year. However as time passed I was able to envision and layout my plan for the blog I wanted to create. The different tools, apps and software plus effort to produce good shots was overwhelming ……but with time and practice things became easier. Also in class, to ease us into the photography, we were given a shots and angles assignment which is linked my blog. Going through these apps and fonts was not a piece of cake. Using software and tools for preliminary tasks was intimidating but it gave me the practice I needed for my final pages which became easier as I journeyed on. My photography skills came alive at any place that had plants. I would try to perfect a shot by taking multiple shots in order to have a large bank of photos. I also became acquainted with how to shoot moving objects which was useful for the double spread since it does include insects that are very detailed and quick in movement not to mention dangerous.

Yes…I spent many, many hours watching YouTube tutorials. was the main app I used to create my pages.

After cropping all my photos I had to used Canva to place them in the correct place. Initially I started with for my blog, but due to glitches, etc my teacher suggested I use Wix which ended up being a hit and trial method.

Constructing a blog is terrifying, but the harder I worked the easier it became and soon I was able to place my elements with ease and work on a specific color theme. Initially I was having multiple difficulties with the minutest of details but it gave me greater attention to detail and as they say the devil is in the details. Canva as the file became heavier it started getting stuck and became very slow so I had to build up my patience and try not to break my computer!!! My double spread was a bit more challenging as hunting for bugs in nature is a painstaking task indeed and capturing moving insects was not easy and perfect shots were almost impossible. I had to be on the hunt for striking insects and spent all of my day in the park combing for suitable insects. Many a time I was camera-ready but then the insect would move away. Also working outdoors in nature itself is challenging. Natural lighting was my best friend but sometimes it was a race against time to find specific plants, flowers, etc.
